Overview

Some films play once a year — and have to be right the first time.

The Relationship

It started on paper: a master-studies brochure for the Faculty of Transport in 2018, then the boards and press walls for their anniversary the year after. By 2020 a second faculty was in — Civil Engineering — and the job had changed shape: films.

Two faculties of the University of Belgrade now mark their big moments on camera: anniversaries, open days, enrolment season. The footage and the script arrive through UKT, a two-person production outfit that has been sending work my way for years. My part starts when the hard drive lands on the desk.

The Work

Editing first: hours of speeches, interviews and campus footage cut down to a film that holds a full hall. Then the motion layer — animated crests, lower thirds, title cards, openers and end screens. Then sound: voices recorded in echoing amphitheatres levelled out, music licensed, the dean audible over the applause.

Every film ships twice — a long cut for the ceremony, a short one for the screens after it.

The Film

One of them, in full — the way the hall saw it first.
